Forgive my excitement, but the actual, FINAL edition of NIGHTMARE ACADEMY arrived in the mail today!

It looks great and I love being able to page through it and see all the little details that were the result of a lot of talented people making a lot of great decisions.

A special thanks goes out to my wonderful editor, Barbara Lalicki, who did such a terrific job pulling this all together and my wife, Elizabeth, who put up with my sometimes grumpy moods while I was trying to make the books the best they could be!

Helping me celebrate the long-awaited arrival are my sons, Chris and Alex:

Wow are your kids cute. They look like little trouble makers too. Sweet of you to mention your wonderful wife. I can’t imagine such a talented author as you have grumpy moments. 😉

Ohmigosh, your kids are so cute!!
And the book! Gorgeous!!! It’s amazing how much richer the colors look on the book itself than on the little LJ icon. Congratulations!

Yeah, it really came out wonderful. The cover is shiny and embossed and the title is done in some kind of cool holographic foil — I just keep touching it!

It looks like that monster is reaching out of the book cover! Congrats! 😀

Yeah, I love the design of the hand reaching toward you. That hand (and the bracer on it) has enormous importance in the book, so it works on a couple levels.

Thanks so much for your nice comments and welcome to the blog! The kids do seem a little excited to have an author dad, particularly Chris (the older one.) He’s my first reader — he read book 1 of NIGHTMARE ACADEMY before anyone else did and, just today, he was the first one to read book 2.
I love being able to share that with him.

Hey, great to hear from you! I didn’t know you were checking out the blog. I’m still definitely up to do a podcast with you when the book comes out, if you’re interested.

Interested? Absolutely. Furthermore, I think we need to spread the word far and wide! Get you on a few other podcasts, such as Writers Talking and I Should Be Writing, if you like. :)

The books look good, but the boys are so cute they steal the focus!
Congratulations, Dean. I know you’ve put a lot of work into the books.

I KNEW I shouldn’t have put my rotten kids next to my book — it took forever to write and now no one even notices it! :)
And I’m so glad to see you here on the blog! I hope all is going well in your corner of the world. I’d love to try to get out to Dragoncon next year — maybe we can all hook up!
