Heading to BEA!
Well, I’m finally getting ready to head out to Book Expo America. I fly to NY on Thursday and will be signing bound galleys of NIGHTMARE ACADEMY from 9:30 – 10:30 Friday morning at the HarperCollins booth. If you happen to be there, please drop by, say “hi” and grab yourself a galley — they’re free!
That evening, I’m going to an author dinner for children’s book writers with my terrific editor, Barbara Lalicki. Then, the next night, I’ll be heading to the HarperCollins cocktail party, which I’m actually really looking forward to. Hopefully, I’ll get to meet a bunch of the folks who have been working on the book.
Also mixed in there, I’ll be getting a chance to grab some lunch with my aunt Fran; see my good friend Paul Malmont (who’s a terrific novelist, by the way — check out his CHINATOWN DEATH CLOUD PERIL); meet author/friend Melissa Marr in person for the first time (her great book WICKED LOVELY comes out next month, so she’s a few months ahead of me in this “first novel” process and has been hugely kind about offering advice); and, finally, I’ll get to spend some time with Bob Ducsay, the producer of the NIGHTMARE ACADEMY movie for Universal Studios (along with Stephen Sommers). Bob is leaving the set of THE MUMMY 3 and flying down from Montreal so he can meet some of the HarperCollins folks. He’s a good guy and I always look forward to chatting with him.
So… that’s the plan! Never been to BEA before, so this is a pretty exciting way to check it out for the first time. I’ll keep you posted…
